Here is our newsletter outlining workshops for the rest of 2011.
The Medicine Wheel Personal Development & Practitioner Course starts December 2011 and runs till April 2012. This is a flagship course, absolutely unique to us. You get to learn and integrate the Medicine Wheel with its incredible maps of the psyche and the cosmos and its transformative effects.

‘Call of the Earth’ - September 15th-19th - is now for men as well as women (we have had many requests from men to do it!) brings the deep embrace of the Great Mother. The Earth calls to us to hear her rhythm, our rhythm.
For Bedfordshire folks Leo is running ‘Shamanic Healing and Soul Retrieval’, a 3 part course October/November/December at Clophill Centre.

Personal Development & Practitioner Training in The Medicine Wheel
A technique of transformation connecting personal process to the cycles of the cosmos
December 17-18th / January 28-29th / February 25-26th / March 24-25th / April 19-23th
 This unique course offers a map of the cosmos and consciousness, and of life’s great human journey. It is for people who wish to work in depth with The Medicine Wheel both for themselves and /or as a practitioner.
The Twenty Count is the foundation Medicine Wheel which describes the evolutionary workings of the Cosmos. Within it sits the Star Maiden’s Circle which shows the human’s life process and opens us to transformation. Together these wheels relate the greater unfolding cosmological process of Spirit/Energy and the elemental/archetypal powers which govern the Universe to the pressures and opportunities that move a human being, and thus all humanity, through experience of life on earth.
The Ancients saw their world in terms of circles and cycles and time as circular rather than linear. Medicine wheels teach of the human's place in the natural order and of the purpose of life. They show the powers that hold the Universe in balance.
The Star Maiden’s Circle unravels our life issues, shows us the source of them and guides us to potent places where we can effect change. It shows how we tend to get caught in the powerlessness of chasing our own tail (i.e. self- limiting patterns and habits) and how to become the authority for ourselves, to take responsibility and master our circumstances. This is path of the hero/ine who challenges demons and conquers for the good of all at whatever risk to self.
THE AIM OF THIS COURSE
We will teach this ancient tool in a contemporary way so that participants will be able to use it both with individual clients and as a personal tool of transformation.
Our way of teaching is to help you gain an embodiment of the map and the powers of the eight directions within yourself in a way that takes you beyond just understanding into an instinctual knowing. We will take you to explore the archetypal energies that underlie human experience and to experience their effect on you as an individual.
We will work with an in depth use of altered states including the shamanic journey, direct experience of the archetypal energies and holding a healing space for yourself and/or your client.
Personal Development & Practitioner Training in The Medicine Wheel shows us how the flow of emotional energy can get stuck in our wounding and is reflected back to us in our day to day life - e.g. grump and the world grumps with you, - in our habits and patterns, which feed limiting beliefs leading to unconscious choices motivated by fear, leaving us disconnected from spirit/cosmos and our inner vitality/life force and so, in conflict with ourselves.
The circle then enables us to transform limiting cycles and bring the movement of new possibilities and thus be fed by life affirming habits and patterns giving us a more expanded world view, enabling us to make more conscious choices through our connection to our passion and the greater energies of existence, leaving us feeling inspired and awake to life.
This is a unique course that works with the therapeutic knowledge of the human process as a part of the spiritual/energetic structure of the Cosmos. This enables a transformation of our isolation and separateness into a recognition of our unity with all existence - from “ALONE to ALL - ONE”.

Dance is an ancient healing path, perhaps as much as 50,000 years old. Our form is derived from the Afro-Brazilian cultures, specifically the Candomble and Umbanda, and also the Gnawa Moroccan tradition, all of which have their roots in West Africa. To be modern does not mean to be separate.
As we have “developed and evolved” we have forgotten. The rhythm of our community today is changing, big time – and the Earth calls to us to hear that rhythm again, to hear the flow of change, the flow of life. The Earth calls to guide you and therefore all you are connected with, to move with life’s changes and not resist them.
We invite you to come and enter into the Earth, to spend time within her deep embrace to slow down the stream of chatter enough to hear the movement of life’s energies, to listen to her gentle whispers of new possibilities and reminders of your own innate heath and wellbeing.
In this time together we offer an Earth Ceremony, which involves spending twenty-four hours in a covered womb-like structure dug down into the Earth, so that you may receive the healing and revitalizing energy of the cool Earth.
In this beautiful dark potent place within the Earth it is possible to deeply relax, to deeply listen, not just your body but your whole psyche and being, allowing a release of energies from deep within that are old and stagnant, leaving space for more creative and compassionate influences to arise and manifest in your lives.
We will use practices, including a Sweat Lodge, to bring ourselves present and in a receptive mode, quieting the mind and sharpening the senses to spend time within the Earth.

AWAKEN THE ENCHANTRESS - REMEMBERING A FORGOTTEN ASPECT OF WOMANHOOD

A Workshop for Women
The Enchantress, she is forgotten, she is misunderstood and she lies deep within each of us.
 She has been banished from our archetypal understanding of the feminine - Maiden, Mother, Crone. She fits in between Mother and Crone. Having let her children go she is not ready to face death but to truly embrace life with the wisdom of experience and the newfound energy that the release of motherhood brings (mother energy can be found in all that we give birth to, not just children)
Although Cronehood is within her sights, she is not ready to withdraw but wants to actively engage in life and explore the freedom of her individuality.
It has been convenient to forget her true nature, instead to install a deviant version of her in our “history” and our minds in the form of the Temptress! Subsequently her power has been distorted, her self-reliance and self-awareness been twisted through fear of being over powered and manipulated by her.
So who is she really? In her healthy state, she is the powerful woman within each of us. She is the Deep Feminine, the Dark Goddess who knows and embraces the cycles of life, death and rebirth. She is the Priestess, the Witch, the Herbalist and the Healer.
Drawing on the wisdom she has gained throughout her life, she brings an awareness and responsibility of how society’s actions affect its citizens, especially the children, in the moment and for tomorrow. She is a strong, influential and passionate voice within the community council.
She is the aspect of us that is alone and connected to the Earth and the realms of other worlds. In this world of fear and ignorance that we live in, society can easily become afraid of her Wyrd connections and sedate and confine her, labelling her hysterical (a “hysterical” woman would often have her womb and ovaries taken out to try and subdue her, hence the term hysterectomy, meaning “to remove the cause of hysteria” or to remove the source of her connection to Wyrd (the Spirit of nature).
To find her, to awaken to her, we must relax into her, surrender to her unyielding power that comes from her “place of no concern” and her connection with the Earth, with the Divine.
We Invite you to come and spend some time with the Enchantress within you through the coming together of women with the same intent, you will call her to be your Ally and guide. We will work with ceremony and you will make your own unique Essence (Potion) to awaken her within.

Healing through altered states With Leo Rutherford
 The Shamanic Journey is about exploring our individual energy world and entering the realm where all things are connected. The ancient shamans knew that all dis-ease originated in the energy matrix of our being where are stored the patterns and habits that underpin our life and they would journey to this place to bring healing. For many of us some of these patterns can lie hidden and yet affect us deeply. The Shamanic Journey offers a vehicle where, through your connection, you can get information and advice and create long term change in your life. Soul Retrieval is using the medium of the Shamanic Journey to re-member ourselves i.e. to re-connect with parts of our life force that we have disconnected from through traumatic experiences. Re-connecting with this life force brings healing and can enliven us as we become more full of our true selves.
The shaman is a 'Master of Ecstacy' Mercia Eliade) -a master of ex-stasis (from the Greek) meaning outside the normal stasis of consciousness. 'Ordinary' people ( to quote the Armenian teacher Gurdjieff) live in a state of 'waking sleep'. The shaman is someone who has woken up to true reality, the reality of the 'nagual', the reality behind apparent reality, the reality of imagination --I-mage-a-nation --I-the Mage. It is in the imagination, the thought orëdreamí realm, where all is conceived. It is only then acted out in the familiar third dimension of gross material reality.

HEALING THE INNER CHILD - THE WORK OF THE ‘SOUTH’ - A Beginning

Ever felt not good enough? Not up to it? Unlovable or unloved? Ever held back when you wanted to step forward?
Over recent centuries children have been undermined, as if that was a normal way of upbringing, and fed with a sense of fear and scarcity on all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This crazy treatment has eaten away at our sense of self worth and self esteem.
When the here and now is not OK, we invariably have to look back to our early years. We call it ‘Doing the work of the South’, ‘erasing personal history’.
The ‘Work’ is to bring the child back to a healthy state of trust and innocence,
the knowing that we have a right to our place in family/community where we are loved and respected, a place within our self that is at peace.
Maps of consciousness have been lost to our culture but they are now rediscovered in the Medicine Wheels. These are a stunningly wonderful multi-dimensional maps of the territory of life. Once we understand and integrate the wheel and its meanings into our subtle body, we can place any issue on it and feel the forces at work, the challenges brought and the solutions possible.

Leo Rutherford is the founder of Eagle's Wing College of Contemporary Shamanism and author of ‘The View through the Medicine Wheel’, ‘Shamanic Path Workbook’ and (Thorsons) ‘Way of Shamanism’, and also the controversial ‘Spirituality versus Religion’ He received his MA in Holistic Psychology from Antioch University, San Francisco, and has studied with many gifted shamans. In his work he seeks to bring the ancient techniques of shamanism to help in guiding people of today to find their ‘Path-With-Heart’ and to ‘Walk In-Beauty’.
