Shamanism - Profiles

Leo Rutherford

Shamanism

A few words about my journey. I worked in industry for twenty years, and for the last twelve years of that was a Managing Director of a manufacturing company which made tin cans and drums. By the age of forty I was suffering from acute stress and depression and 'normal' life did not make sense to me any more. I took my life apart and set out to find an alternative path, a path with more heart. I went through all kinds of therapy, learned to dance, sing and play in a way I hadn't since childhood, and I gained my MA in Holistic Psychology at Antioch University in San Francisco, where I lived for five years. Quite unexpectedly I came across the beautiful ancient wisdom of the indigenous shamans. I was introduced to this path by Joan Halifax in 1980 and since then have continued to learn from a wide variety of teachers. As I have got older, so I have become younger! It is my great joy to pass on to others through these workshops, some of the experience and knowledge that has helped me to transform my life. A process that goes on and on........

Shamanism

I feel greatly privileged to do this work. I am fortunate to be able to encounter, work with, and bring groups to meet some extraordinary shamans & healers in the Andes, the Amazon Rainforest, and the Philippines. It gives me enormous pleasure to witness people become more empowered and engaging in life with more creativity, energy, and happiness through the shamanic body of practices. I do this work with one hundred percent effort and passion. So much has happened since my 'entry' into the world of shamanism over twenty years ago following a serious accident (an elevator crash) which resulted in severe injuries and a near-death experience. Since the 1990’s I have organised journeys to the Amazon Rainforest and the Andes learning from the shamans and participating in Ayahuasca, San Pedro and sacred plant ceremonies. I was baptised into their tribe by the Shipibo Indians in the Amazon, and was initiated into the lineage of the maestros of the Rio Napo in the Upper Amazon.

Shamanism

The Shamanic way of life and growth is where my passion and excitement are continually inspired. My journey has been, and continues to be, about enjoying myself and establishing healthy relations with all things. Part of this has included 15 years of experience working in mental health and group dynamics, 3 years training at the Chiron Centre for holistic psychotherapy and 10 years being involved in Shamanic work, principally with Eagle’s Wing.

Lorraine Grayston

Shamanism

Lorraine Grayston My experience of Shamanism inspired me to change the quality of my life, which up until then had felt like a constant struggle. Shamanism offered me a chance to visit difficult places in my life and transform them, touch in on beauty and to strengthen and resolve those difficult places. It was also the beginning of my journey to reclaim wholeness and vital energy. I was able to quit my job as a trainer and manager, and retrain as a Homoeopath and later a Shamanic Practitioner. I now run busy practices working with individuals in both London and Sussex and yet always love to work with and be part of, the circle and feel its power in transforming the individual.

Shamanism

My journey with Eagle's Wing began in 1987. A doorway of opportunity led me into working with and supporting medicine circles. It has been a privilege to be in a position to learn and experience so much over the last 19 years. I bring the warmth and generosity of my heart to the work, and often feel a deep sense of connection to the Earth. I am capable of drumming up a magical space on my Djembe.

Peter Cloudsley
