Eagle's Wing College of Contemporary Shamanism
Leo Rutherford
A few words about my journey. I worked in industry for twenty years, and for the last twelve years of that was a Managing Director of a manufacturing company which made tin cans and drums. By the age of forty I was suffering from acute stress and depression and 'normal' life did not make sense to me any more. I took my life apart and set out to find an alternative path, a path with more heart. I went through all kinds of therapy, learned to dance, sing and play in a way I hadn't since childhood, and I gained my MA in Holistic Psychology at Antioch University in San Francisco, where I lived for five years. Quite unexpectedly I came across the beautiful ancient wisdom of the indigenous shamans. I was introduced to this path by Joan Halifax in 1980 and since then have continued to learn from a wide variety of teachers. As I have got older, so I have become younger! It is my great joy to pass on to others through these workshops, some of the experience and knowledge that has helped me to transform my life. A process that goes on and on........

I feel greatly privileged to do this work. I am fortunate to be able to encounter, work with, and bring groups to meet some extraordinary shamans & healers in the Andes, the Amazon Rainforest, and the Philippines. It gives me enormous pleasure to witness people become more empowered and engaging in life with more creativity, energy, and happiness through the shamanic body of practices. I do this work with one hundred percent effort and passion. So much has happened since my 'entry' into the world of shamanism over twenty years ago following a serious accident (an elevator crash) which resulted in severe injuries and a near-death experience. Since the 1990's I have organised journeys to the Amazon Rainforest and the Andes learning from the shamans and participating in Ayahuasca, San Pedro and sacred plant ceremonies. I was baptised into their tribe by the Shipibo Indians in the Amazon, and was initiated into the lineage of the maestros of the Rio Napo in the Upper Amazon.

The shamanic way of life and growth is where my passion and excitement are continually inspired. My journey has been and continues to be establishing healthy relations with all things and becoming more and more alive within my life.
I have been involved in Shamanic work since 1989, coming from a background of working in mental health and group dynamics, including holistic Psychotherapy. I work full time as a Shamanic Practitioner with groups of men and women, women's groups and individuals exploring the potency of who we are and our connections in life on this beautiful planet.
I feel this work is a great key to understanding ourselves within our lives and empowering ourselves with the tools to make the most of our journey.

My experience of Shamanism opens doorways for me to connect with one-ness and the spirit alive in everything. Shamanism offers me a chance to visit difficult places and transform them, touch in on beauty and strengthen those places and begin to reclaim wholeness and vital energy. I bring to the work my experience as a Homeopathic and Shamanic Practitioner and teacher, twenty years experience of working with groups and my dedication to inspire myself and others to be fully awake and in the river of life.

My journey with Eagle's Wing began in 1987. A doorway of opportunity led me into working with and supporting medicine circles. It has been a privilege to be in a position to learn and experience so much over the last 19 years. I bring the warmth and generosity of my heart to the work, and often feel a deep sense of connection to the Earth. I am capable of drumming up a magical space on my Djembe.
Peter Cloudsley
Since 1980, Peter has been researching Peruvian fiesta music. He has built up a documented archive of traditional music and interviews, and has collected for the British Museum. Throughout this time he has travelled extensively in Latin America, especially Peru, studying the wealth of music and diversity of popular religions. Peter has taught courses at the City Lit and elsewhere (on music and popular culture in Latin America) and speaks fluent Spanish & Portuguese
